Three government departments are responsible to approve drone filming in Dubai, the Dubai Film & TV Commission, the Ministry of Defense, and The Civil Aviation Authority of Dubai. Once all the documents related to the project are filled on DFTC Form the process of approval begins. Filming details along with location coordinates and a letter of no objection from the land owner is required. Once all forms are submitted to relevant authorities within 6-10 working days permits are granted. Night filming or filming close to the airport and busy airspace will require the submission of a risk assessment.

What is the regulation for obtaining drone filming permits in Abu Dhabi?

General Civil Aviation Authority is the main federal body responsible to give all approvals for aerial filming permits in rest of UAE except Dubai. GCAA works with the safety section and the Ministry of Defense for the security aspect of the permit approval. We are required to send an official request letter with the filming plan and dates with details of the project. It takes 8-15 working days to get all approvals.

Will I get all permits if our project is on short notice?

Due to the lengthy paperwork, it is always advised to apply for a permit well in advance. If your project is government related or an important event we can talk to authorities to speed up the process. This can only be advised case by case basis and is not guaranteed.
